TAPA 1 CERTIFICATION FOR MATTHEWS INTERNATIONAL TRANSPORT
We are delighted to announce that Matthews International Transport is now one of the few UK hauliers who are TAPA 1 certified.
TAPA stands for Transported Asset Protection Association. This is a unique forum in which global manufacturers, logistics providers, freight carriers, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders together establish leading security standards for the supply chain. The purpose of TAPA is to minimize transport crime, cargo theft and the loss of goods.
Transport crime continues to increase and the incidents also become more violent. According to the European Union, the theft of high value, high risk products moving in supply chains in Europe costs businesses in excess of € 8.2 billion a year. In the Netherlands alone, it’s 329 million euros. That must be stopped. TAPA helps to prevent transport crime.
TAPA EMEA’s Trucking Security Requirements (TSR) have been developed ‘by the industry, for the industry’ and are reviewed every three years in consultation with members to ensure they are as effective as possible and address new or emerging supply chain risks or crime trends. The TSR Standard protects products transported by road and aims to ensure the safety of drivers, vehicles, and cargoes by preventing criminal attacks.
The next revision of the TSR Standard is due to come into effect in mid-2023.
TAPA provides guidelines in the area of transportation security and has three different certifications.
- TAPA FSR – Facility Security Requirements (A, B of C)
The official standard for the storage of high value goods. It also defines the requirements that a logistics service provider must meet in order to be certified. - TAPA TSR – Safety requirements for transport
The official standard for safe road transport of high value goods. It also describes the requirements that transport companies must meet in order to be certified. - TAPA PSR – Parking security requirements
The official standard for safe and secure parking areas for trucks transporting high value goods. It also defines the requirements that parking lot operators must meet to achieve certification.
TAPA organizes 20 training courses each year in the EMEA region for members who want to become TAPA certified.
As with all TAPA EMEA Supply Chain Security Standards, the Association recommends using service providers which meet or exceed TAPA EMEA’s TSR certification requirements. After logging onto the password-protected members’ area of this website, TAPA EMEA members can see listings of all TSR certified companies by selecting the ‘Map & Routing’ option in the TAPA EMEA Intelligence System (TIS).
Successful implementation of the TSR Standard is dependent upon service providers – including any subcontractors used, TAPA EMEA-approved Independent Audit bodies, and buyers of trucking services – working together to accurately interpret, adopt and audit against these requirements.
Matthews International Transport is delighted to be a certified TAPA EMEA-Approved haulier, rated to carry TAPA class 1 goods, meaning that we are certified to carry the highest value goods with security implemented that both meets and exceeds TAPA-EMEA’s extremely high standards.
